Tulsa Pod

1. Texas Longhorns (Big 12 auto)
Last Week: 2
19-3 overall; 7-0 conference; 7-2 vs. RPI Top 50; 2-1 vs. RPI 51-100; 8-0 vs. RPI 150+; 7-2 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 136 Loss: 31
RPI: 11
SOS: 19
RPI 1-50 Wins: at Kansas, North Carolina (N), Texas A&M, at Texas A&M, Missouri, at Michigan State, Illinois (N)
RPI 51-100 Wins: at Oklahoma State, Arkansas
Losses: Connecticut, Pittsburgh (N), at USC
Last Week: won at Oklahoma State 61-46, def. Missouri 71-58, won at Texas A&M 69-49
This Week: Texas Tech (Sat.)
The Longhorns won in Stillwater, in what was an emotional night for the Cowboys, then took care of business against Missouri in Austin, a game where the Longhorns used their size to dominate the Tigers. Finally, Texas handled their archrivals from College Station to close a busy week. Up next, a home game against Texas Tech, a possible letdown alert.

16. Long Beach State 49ers (Big West auto)
11-10 overall; 8-2 conference; 0-5 vs. RPI Top 50; 0-1 vs. RPI 51-100; 7-4 vs. RPI 150+; 6-8 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 168 Loss: 117
RPI: 103
SOS: 90
Last Week: won at Pacific 67-66, def. Cal State Fullerton 75-60
This Week: Idle until February 10th at UC Davis
The 49ers escaped Stockton with a one-point win, snapping a two-game road skid. LBSU then avenged a January 19th loss at Fullerton to take a game lead over Cal State Northridge, who slipped past UC Santa Barbara on Saturday night.

8. Michigan State Spartans (Big Ten at-large)
Last Week: 6
12-8 overall; 5-4 conference; 3-7 vs. RPI Top 50; 3-1 vs. RPI 51-100; 5-0 vs. RPI 150+; 3-6 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 132 Loss: 27
RPI: 36
SOS: 5
RPI 1-50 Wins: Minnesota, Washington (N), Wisconsin
RPI 51-100 Wins: Oakland, Northwestern, at Northwestern
Losses: Connecticut (N), at Purdue, Texas, at Duke, Syracuse (N), at Illinois, at Penn State, Michigan
Last Week: lost to Michigan 61-57, def. Indiana 79-78 (OT)
This Week: at Iowa (Wed.), at Wisconsin (Sun.)
After suffering their first home loss to Michigan in 14 years, the Spartans are squarely on the bubble. An OT win at home over Indiana, when Draymond Green bailed out his teammates late, does little to change that. Things may get worse before they get better, thanks to a trip to Madison Sunday.

9. Marquette Golden Eagles (Big East at-large)
Last Week: 11
Record: 14-8 overall; 5-4 conference; 3-7 vs. RPI Top 50; 2-1 vs. RPI 51-100; 7-0 vs. RPI 150+; 2-6 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 177 Loss: 25
RPI: 59
SOS: 30
RPI 1-50 Wins: Notre Dame, West Virginia, Syracuse
RPI 51-100 Wins: Bucknell, Rutgers
Losses: Connecticut, at Pittsburgh, at Notre Dame, Duke (N), at Louisville, at Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, Gonzaga (N)
Last Week: lost to Connecticut 76-68, def. Syracuse 76-70
This Week: at Villanova (Wed.)
The Golden Eagles missed an opportunity on Tuesday night against UConn, dropping their first home game of the season, but they rebounded Saturday, adding to Syracuse's considerable woes. Marquette looks more and more safe, thanks to the turmoil below them, but could still use a nice road win, like in Philadelphia on Wednesday night.

5. Washington Huskies (Pac-10 at-large)
Last Week: 4
15-5 overall; 7-2 conference; 2-3 vs. RPI Top 50; 3-1 vs. RPI 51-100; 7-0 vs. RPI 150+; 4-5 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 133 Loss: 56
RPI: 22
SOS: 38
RPI 1-50 Wins: at Arizona, UCLA
RPI 51-100 Wins: at California, Portland, at USC, San Francisco
Losses: Kentucky (N), at Texas A&M, Michigan State (N), at Stanford
Last Week: lost at Washington State 87-80
This Week: at Oregon State (Thu.), at Oregon (Sat.)
The Huskies fell from the four line with a loss at Washington State Sunday, but they have an excellent chance to jump back up with a sweep of the Oregon schools. However, the fact the Huskies have no non-conference wins of note hurts their overall profile.

12. Gonzaga Bulldogs (West Coast at-large)
Last Week: 12, Second Round
13-8 overall; 4-3 conference; 1-5 vs. RPI Top 50; 4-1 vs. RPI 51-100; 7-1 vs. RPI 150+; 3-6 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 168 Loss: 59
RPI: 89
SOS: 55
RPI 1-50 Wins: Xavier
RPI 51-100 Wins: Portland, Oklahoma State, Marquette (N), Baylor (N)
Bad (RPI 150+) Losses: at Santa Clara
Other Losses: San Diego State, at Notre Dame, St. Mary's, Illinois (N), Kansas State (N), at Washington State, at San Francisco
Last Week: lost to St. Mary's 73-71, def. San Diego 86-53
This Week: at Portland (Thu.), Memphis (Sat.)
The Bulldogs were games back of St. Mary's in the WCC, thanks to a defeat to the Gaels on Thursday, their third straight conference loss. However, St. Mary's' loss to Portland on Saturday, combined with the Bulldogs' rout of San Diego, means they sit two games back. A trip to Portland awaits on Wednesday, then a home game against Memphis, which is a Bracket Buster for all intents and purposes.

12. Penn State Nittany Lions (Big Ten at-large)
New Entrant
Record: 12-8 overall; 5-4 conference; 3-3 vs. RPI Top 50; 1-4 vs. RPI 51-100; 5-0 vs. RPI 150+; 1-5 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 127 Loss: 59
RPI: 45
SOS: 6
RPI 1-50 Wins: Wisconsin, Michigan State, Illinois
RPI 51-100 Wins: Duquesne
Other Losses: at Ohio State, at Purdue, Purdue, at Virginia Tech, Maryland, at Michigan, at Mississippi, Maine
Last Week: def. Iowa 65-51, def. Wisconsin 56-52
This Week: at Illinois (Tue.), Michigan (Sun.)
Sure, Penn State's best wins have come at home, but they at least have some quality wins, unlike so many other bubble teams. The Nittany Lions couldn't afford a loss to the Hawkeyes on Wednesday, and they came through, much like they did in rebounding from a nine-point halftime deficit against Wisconsin on Saturday.

4. Georgetown Hoyas (Big East at-large)
Last Week: 5
17-5 overall; 6-4 conference; 7-5 vs. RPI Top 50; 4-0 vs. RPI 51-100; 5-0 vs. RPI 150+; 9-3 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 108 Loss: 20
RPI: 5
SOS: 3
RPI 1-50 Wins: Villanova, Louisville, St. John's, Missouri (N), Utah State, at Old Dominion, at Memphis
RPI 51-100 Wins: Coastal Carolina (N), at Seton Hall, NC State (N), at Rutgers
Losses: Pittsburgh, at Notre Dame, West Virginia, at St. John's, at Temple
Last Week: def. St. John's 77-52, won at Villanova 69-66, def. Louisville 62-59
This Week: Providence (Sat.)
The Hoyas finally got back to .500 in the Big East by grabbing their first meaningful conference win at home against St. John's with a blizzard roaring outside, and rose above it with a gritty three-point win at Villanova on Saturday. On Monday, they picked up another against a hot Louisville team, even though it wasn't the prettiest game. Now, the Hoyas have a few days off before Providence comes calling on Saturday.

13. Oakland Golden Grizzlies (Summit auto)
15-8 overall; 11-0 conference; 1-5 vs. RPI Top 50; 0-3 vs. RPI 51-100; 12-0 vs. RPI 150+; 9-7 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 202 Loss: 41
RPI: 73
SOS: 130
Last Week: def. Oral Roberts 88-85, def. Centenary 100-70
This Week: at Western Illinois (Thu.), at IUPUI (Sun.)
The Golden Grizzlies remain unbeaten in the Summit, but Oral Roberts, who Oakland defeated by 8 on December 30th, nearly handed them their first conference loss on Thursday night. On Saturday, the Grizzlies handed Centenary yet another loss, as the Gents may well see their final Division I season be a perfectly imperfect one. But for Oakland, Sunday's game at IUPUI may be their biggest obstacle to a perfect league mark.

6. Illinois Fighting Illini (Big Ten at-large)
Last Week: 5
14-7 overall; 4-4 conference; 3-5 vs. RPI Top 50; 4-0 vs. RPI 51-100; 6-2 vs. RPI 150+; 4-6 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 132 Loss: 76
RPI: 40
SOS: 24
RPI 1-50 Wins: North Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan State
RPI 51-100 Wins: Maryland (N), Oakland, Northwestern, Gonzaga (N)
Bad (RPI 150+) Losses: at Indiana, Illinois-Chicago (N)
Other Losses: Ohio State, Texas (N), Missouri (N), at Wisconsin, at Penn State, Indiana
Last Week: lost at Indiana 52-49
This Week: Penn State (Tue.), at Northwestern (Sat.)
The Illini's road troubles continued with a three-point loss at Indiana, a result that moved the Hoosiers over .500. Illinois has now lost four of its last five, which sees their seeding take a tumble. They'll be looking for revenge (and a quality win) against Penn State on Tuesday night.

11. Virginia Tech Hokies (ACC at-large)
Last Week: 10
Record: 14-6 overall; 4-3 conference; 1-4 vs. RPI Top 50; 4-0 vs. RPI 51-100; 8-2 vs. RPI 150+; 6-4 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 176 Loss: 66
RPI: 68
SOS: 82
RPI 1-50 Wins: Penn State
RPI 51-100 Wins: Oklahoma State (N), Florida State,at Maryland, Miami
Bad (RPI 150+) Losses: Virginia, at Georgia Tech
Other Losses: Purdue, at North Carolina, UNLV (N), at Kansas State
Last Week: lost at Georgia Tech 72-57, def. Miami 72-68
This Week: at NC State (Wed.), at Boston College (Sat.)
The Hokies picked up their second inexcusable loss (for an alleged tourney contender) of the season at Georgia Tech on Tuesday night, but recovered by slipping past Miami on Sunday night in Blacksburg. Two difficult road trips are on tap for this week, with the visit to Boston being particularly key for seeding.

3. Villanova Wildcats (Big East at-large)
Last Week: 2
17-4 overall; 5-3 conference; 5-3 vs. RPI Top 50; 3-1 vs. RPI 51-100; 7-0 vs. RPI 150+; 6-3 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 134 Loss: 30
RPI: 14
SOS: 28
RPI 1-50 Wins: at Syracuse, Louisville, Temple, Cincinnati, UCLA (N)
RPI 51-100 Wins: Maryland, Bucknell, Rutgers
Losses: Georgetown, at Connecticut, Tennessee (N), at Providence
Last Week: lost at Providence 83-68, lost to Georgetown 69-66
This Week: Marquette (Wed.), West Virginia (Sat.)
On Wednesday, the Wildcats lost their second straight game at the Dunkin Donuts Center, a loss nearly as inexplicable as Syracuse's at Seton Hall. Saturday, that turned into an actual losing streak for 2011, as Georgetown sneaked out of the Wells Fargo Center with a win. The struggles could continue with two decent opponents coming in to visit this week.

14. Wofford Terriers (Southern auto)
New Entrant
12-10 overall; 9-2 conference; 1-3 vs. RPI Top 50; 0-4 vs. RPI 51-100; 11-1 vs. RPI 150+; 6-7 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 236 Loss: 83
RPI: 147
SOS: 165
Last Week: won at Appalachian State 74-65, def. Western Carolina 75-66
This Week: at College of Charleston (Thu.), at The Citadel (Sat.)
The Terriers find themselves here after their opponents Thursday, College of Charleston, lost at Davidson by 11 on Saturday. The Terriers are tied at 9-2, with the Cougars one win back. Wofford holds the bid for this week thanks to owning a better overall record than the Mocs.

7. Tennessee Volunteers (SEC at-large)
Last Week: 9
14-7 overall; 4-2 conference; 6-2 vs. RPI Top 50; 4-4 vs. RPI 51-100; 4-1 vs. RPI 150+; 5-3 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 91 Loss: 78
RPI: 17
SOS: 1
RPI 1-50 Wins: at Pittsburgh, Villanova (N), Vanderbilt, Memphis, at Georgia, Missouri State
RPI 51-100 Wins: VCU (N), Belmont (2x), Mississippi
Bad (RPI 150+) Losses: at Charlotte
Other Losses: at Connecticut, Florida, Oakland, at Arkansas, USC, College of Charleston
Last Week: def. LSU 75-53, won at Mississippi 74-57
This Week: at Auburn (Thu.), Alabama (Sat.)
Is it possible that Tennessee may be reaching some level of consistency? They took care of two West division opponents they should have handled this week. First, good Scotty Hopson showed up for the Volunteers against LSU, then he returned and brought Brian Williams with him in disposing of Ole Miss on Saturday. Two more winnable West games await this week.

10. Cleveland State Vikings (Horizon auto)
Last Week: 12
18-3 overall; 9-2 conference; 0-2 vs. RPI Top 50; 2-1 vs. RPI 51-100; 10-0 vs. RPI 150+; 9-3 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 161 Loss: 37
RPI: 29
SOS: 141
RPI 1-50 Wins: None
RPI 51-100 Wins: Kent State, Wright State
Losses: at West Virginia, at Butler, at Valparaiso
Last Week: won at Illinois-Chicago 63-49, won at Loyola-Chicago 81-70
This Week: Valparaiso (Thu.), Butler (Sat.), at Detroit (Mon.)
The Vikings fell behind early at UIC, but eventually they proved to be too much for the still winless Flames. They then grabbed their 20th win of the season (18th against D1 opposition) at Loyola. A huge homestand awaits this week, with the game against Horizon co-leader Valpo looking to be even bigger than the Butler one.

2. BYU Cougars (MWC at-large)
Last Week: 3
19-2 overall; 6-1 conference; 6-1 vs. RPI Top 50; 3-1 vs. RPI 51-100; 6-0 vs. RPI 150+; 9-2 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 112 Loss: 55
RPI: 2
SOS: 11
RPI 1-50 Wins: San Diego State, Arizona, Utah State, at UNLV, St. Mary's (N), at Colorado State
RPI 51-100 Wins: UTEP, Vermont (N), Air Force
Losses: UCLA (N), at New Mexico
Last Week: def. San Diego State 71-58, lost at New Mexico 86-77
This Week: at Wyoming (Wed), UNLV (Sat.)
The Good: Jimmer Fredette scored 40+ for the fourth game in a row as the Cougars handed San Diego State their first loss and took sole possession of first place in the Mountain West.
The Bad: The Cougars followed that up with a loss in Albuquerque, which opened the door back up for the Aztecs, damaging their No. 1 seed chances in the process.

15. Maine Black Bears (America East auto)
13-7 overall; 8-1 conference; 1-1 vs. RPI Top 50; 2-1 vs. RPI 51-100; 10-4 vs. RPI 150+; 7-3 Road/Neutral
Average RPI win: 206 Loss: 156
RPI: 140
SOS: 230
Last Week: def. New Hampshire 64-50, won at Binghamton 77-74
This Week: at Boston University (Tue.), at UMBC (Sun.)
The Black Bears won twice this week to maintain their one-game advantage on Vermont in the America East. Plus, their win at Penn State keeps looking better and better.
