Hello, college basketball fans!
Hope you enjoyed the Super Bowl. I have family in the Bay Area so I was rooting for the 49ers to win but it was a good game.
This year the groundhog said we're going to have an early spring!

Bids by Conference:
Big Ten: 12 (TWELVE!)
SEC: 6
Big East: 5
Big 12: 5
Pac 12: 5
ACC: 3 (Just 3!)
AAC: 3
A-10: 3
WCC: 3
One bid conferences: 23
Highest NET left out (WarrenNolan.com as of Saturday's games): Alabama (42), Cincinnati (46), Xavier (47), Memphis (50)
The top seeds remain intact but three of the four #2 seeds in last Friday's Schmolik 64 update as well as two of the #3 seeds lost. Duke moved up to the top #2 seed and moves to the East and Louisville and Dayton move up. Michigan State holds on to the last #2 by being tied for the top of the Big Ten and for beating Seton Hall at Seton Hall. It was a bad weekend for the Big East as their top three teams, Seton Hall, Villanova, and Butler, all lost at home. Seton Hall and Butler lost to teams not even in the field (although Xavier got a nice NET ranking boost after beating the Pirates). Auburn's win over Kentucky moves them up to the last #4 seed.
I am introducing what I'll call (at least for this season) the Tulsa rule. I can't ever recall this happening for a multi bid conference in an early season update but Tulsa leads the American Athletic but wouldn't qualify for an at large. Technically they would have to be in the field so I'm putting them in even though I have other AAC teams in. I don't know how often this will happen but if you are leading your conference you have to be in the field. It's the Tulsa rule!
The ACC fell to just three bids. Virginia (58) and Virginia Tech's (61) NET rankings are just too low right now. NC State's is 69 and they don't have the signature win Virginia (Florida State) or Virginia Tech (Michigan State) has. The lowest NET to get an at large is Indiana at 52.
