Quad 1 For Both Teams (1/1: 2 Games)
Top 30 at Top 75
8. Butler Bulldogs (15-3, 3-2 Big East) at 17. Villanova Wildcats (14-3, 4-1), 7 p.m. (CBSSN)
24. Texas Tech Red Raiders (12-5, 3-2 Big 12) at 64. TCU Horned Frogs (12-5, 3-2), 8 p.m. (ESPN+ ($))
Butler heads to Finneran Pavilion needing to snap a two-game skid that’s put the Bulldogs behind both Seton Hall and host Villanova, which has won four straight. In the Big 12, tonight’s winner in Fort Worth will join West Virginia at 4-2 in conference play heading into this weekend’s challenge with the SEC. TCU travels to Arkansas and paired with Texas Tech’s visit tonight, the Horned Frogs can really improve their tournament hopes by sweeping both games. As for the Red Raiders, they’re back in today’s bracket with Kentucky visiting Lubbock on Saturday.
Quad 2 For Host/Quad 1 For Visitor (2/1: 3 Games)
31–75 at Top 75
73. Georgia Bulldogs (11-6, 1-3 SEC) at 28. Kentucky Wildcats (13-4, 4-1), 7 p.m. (ESPN)
40. Illinois Fighting Illini (13-5, 5-2 Big Ten) at 38. Purdue Boilermakers (10-8, 3-4), 7 p.m. (ESPNU)
39. Florida Gators (12-5, 4-1 SEC) at 23. LSU Tigers (13-4, 5-0), 7 p.m. (SECN)
Similarly, Florida has a big week ahead of it, as the Gators travel to Baton Rouge looking to hand LSU a first SEC loss days before giving Auburn its second and days before new No. 1 Baylor visits Gainesville. Note that LSU has lost just three of its last 24 SEC contests (including the conference tournament) — with UF being responsible for two of those. Georgia, meanwhile, doesn’t have a Big 12 game to look forward to this weekend, which means it will need to make the country take notice by avoiding an early season sweep at the hands of UK. The Wildcats pulled away late in Athens to pick up a 78-69 win just two weeks ago. Illinois can also complete a sweep tonight, as it held Purdue to just 37 points in winning in Champaign on January 5th. You can bet the Boilermakers will look to return the favor tonight.
Quad 1 For Host/Quad 2 For Visitor (1/2: 1 Game)
Top 30 at 76–135
15. Maryland Terrapins (14-4, 4-3 Big Ten) at 134. Northwestern Wildcats (6-11, 1-6), 7 p.m. (FS1)
Maryland, which knocked Purdue off in College Park on Saturday, begins the first of a two-game road trip with the easier contest, as the Terps visit Indiana on Sunday.
Quad 3 For Host/Quad 1 For Visitor (3/1: 5 Games)
76–160 at Top 75
84. Kansas State Wildcats (8-9, 1-4 Big 12) at 3. Kansas Jayhawks (14-3, 4-1), 7 p.m. (ESPN2)
109. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (9-8, 2-5 ACC) at 75. Clemson Tigers (9-8, 3-4), 8 p.m. (ACCN)
87. Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes (10-7. 2-5 ACC) at 6. Duke Blue Devils (15-3, 5-2), 9 p.m. (ESPN)
77. St. John’s Red Storm (12-7, 1-5 Big East) at 30. Marquette Golden Eagles (13-5, 3-3), 9 p.m. (FS1)
113. Ole Miss Rebels (9-8, 0-4 SEC) at 62. Tennessee Volunteers (11-6, 3-2), 9 p.m. (SECN)
Last season, K-State earned a season split with Kansas, a course of events that seems unlikely here in 2020.
The two ACC contests illustrate the gap that can sometimes exist in these 3/1 games, as both Wake and Clemson would need to squint to see the bubble at this point, while a Miami team in a similar position to the Deacons and Tigers visits a Duke squad that’s looking to get back on track for a No. 1 seed.
By only picking up one win since Big East play started, St. John’s has tumbled down the bubble pecking order. Marquette, meanwhile, is on more stable ground following wins over Xavier and Georgetown, two other squads that join the Red Storm on the outside looking in. In the SEC, Tennessee will look to get closer to the bubble by handing Ole Miss a fifth straight loss overall.
Quad 2 For Host/Quad 3 For Visitor (2/3: 3 Games)
31–75 at 136–240
31. Wichita State Shockers (15-3, 3-2 AAC) at 136. South Florida Bulls (8-10, 1-4), 7 p.m. (ESPN News)
65. Akron Zips (14-4, 4-1 MAC) at 209. Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (8-10, 1-4), 7 p.m. (ESPN+ ($))
46. VCU Rams (13-5, 3-2 A 10) at 204. Saint Joseph’s Hawks (4-14, 0-5), 9 p.m. (CBSSN)
Wichita State travels to Tampa In desperate need of a win following an 0-2 week that saw the Shockers fall to both Temple in Philadelphia and Houston at home. MAC favorite Akron, meanwhile, dropped its first conference game of the season on Saturday, again at home, to the Toledo, so Miami will have to be up to the Zips’ challenge this evening. VCU, on the other hand, followed up its road loss to Atlantic 10 favorite Dayton by blasting St. Bonaventure in Richmond on Saturday. What do the Rams, now just outside of my projected field, have in store for Saint Joe’s tonight?
Quad 3 For Host/Quad 2 For Visitor (3/2: 2 Games)
76–160 at 76–135
78. Oklahoma State Cowboys (9-8, 0-5 Big 12) at 82. Iowa State Cyclones (8-9, 1-4), 8 p.m. (ESPN+ ($))
146. Texas A&M Aggies (8-8, 2-3 SEC) at 76. Missouri Tigers (9-8, 1-4), 9 p.m. (ESPNU)
On Saturday, Oklahoma State had Baylor on the ropes for long stretches before the Bears won and jumped to the top spot in the polls. Now, the Cowboys remain winless in conference heading to similarly struggling Iowa State. Meanwhile, a pair of former Big 12 rivals meet in an SEC contest in Columbia, Missouri, where the hosts will look to get themselves into a tie in league play with the visiting Aggies.
Quad 4 For Host/Quad 1 For Visitor (4/1: 2 Games)
161–353 at Top 75
170. Nebraska Cornhuskers (7-11, 2-5 Big Ten) at 22. Wisconsin Badgers (11-7, 4-3), 9 p.m. (BTN)
298. Wyoming Cowboys (5-15, 0-8 MW) at 2. San Diego State Aztecs (19-0, 8-0), 11 p.m. (CBSSN)
On Friday, Wisconsin struggled to compete with Michigan State in East Lansing. The Badgers shouldn’t have such trouble against a Nebraska team that’s 0-5 in true road games so far this season. As for the nation’s lone remaining undefeated, San Diego State will look to avoid one of the worst possible losses out there when Wyoming visits Viejas.
Quad 4 For Host/Quad 2 For Visitor (4/2: Games)
161–353 at 76–135
174. Air Force Falcons (9-10, 3-4 MW) at 83. Utah State Aggies (14-6, 3-4), 11 p.m. (ESPNU)
A January 7th loss at the Air Force Academy was the third straight for Utah State. The Aggies have since gone 1-1, blowing an 18-point lead late at Boise State, falling in overtime.
