10-Year Mayhem Potential
Data from Bob Vetrone Jr. on Twitter.
Over the past 10 seasons, one of the CAA’s top two seeds has won the automatic bid eight times. The No. 2 won last year and in 2016, with the No. 1 filling the spot in the intervening two seasons.
- 1 seed (4): 2010, 2014, 2017, 2018
- 2 seed (4): 2011, 2012, 2016, 2019
- 3 seed (2): 2013, 2015
10-Year NCAA Seeding Record
Years with an NCAA win are in bold.
- 13 seed (4): 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019
- 11 seed (2): 2010, 2011 (at-large)
- 12 seed (2): 2012, 2017
- 8 seed (1): 2011 (at-large)
- 9 seed (1): 2011 (automatic)
- 14 seed (1): 2015
- 16 seed (1): 2013 (First Four)
The only NCAA Tournament win a current CAA member recorded over the past 10 seasons came in the First Four, courtesy of the James Madison Dukes. All of the others belong to a pair of current Atlantic 10 members, the VCU Rams and George Mason Patriots, and C-USA’s Old Dominion Monarchs.
Hofstra projects as a 14 seed in this season’s tournament, with William & Mary also likely to end up on that line should it make the field. Otherwise, the CAA champ could end up as a 15, or less likely, a 16.
