10-Year Mayhem Potential

Data from Bob Vetrone Jr. on Twitter.

In its six seasons, the No. 1 or 2 seed has won five American Tournaments.

  • 1 seed (3): 2015, 2017, 2018
  • 2 seed (2): 2014, 2019
  • 5 seed (1): 2016

Six-Year NCAA Bid Totals

  • 4 bids (3): 2014 (9-3 record, 10 teams, UConn national champion), 2016 (1-4 record, 11 teams), 2019 (3-4 record, 12 teams)
  • 3 bids (1): 2018 (2-3 record, 12 teams)
  • 2 bids (2): 2015 (1-2 record, 11 teams), 2017 (1-2 record, 11 teams)

It’s more likely that the American earns two or three bids this year than matching its high total of four.

Last Conference Tournament Championships

Cincinnati: 2019 (2 seed)
SMU: 2017 (1 seed)
Wichita State: 2017 (2 seed, MVC)
UConn: 2016 (5 seed)
Tulsa: 2014 (2 seed, C-USA)
Memphis: 2013 (1 seed, C-USA)
Houston: 2010 (7 seed, C-USA)
Temple: 2010 (1 seed, Atlantic 10)
UCF: 2005 (2 seed, Atlantic Sun)
East Carolina: 1993 (7 seed, CAA)
South Florida: 1990 (2 seed, Sun Belt)

While just three teams have won the American Athletic tournament title over its short lifespan, Tulane is the only conference member without a conference tournament championship period.
