NET Viewing Guide For Tuesday, February 5, 2019

Tonight’s action picks up steam at 8 p.m. Eastern, but there’s just one all-Group 1 matchup on the slate. (Several games just miss.) For a more traditional look at the schedule, visit MattSarzSports.com.

At the bottom of the page, you’ll find a lineup broken down by telecast window with the group designations in bold to the left of the game. Instead of ordering these by tip time, however, I’ve grouped them by importance.

Reminders of the different groupings:

  • Group 1 (home games): Visitor is ranked 1-30
  • Group 1 (away games): Host is ranked 1-75
  • Group 2 (home games): Visitor is ranked 31-75
  • Group 2 (away games): Host is ranked 76-135
  • Group 3 (home games): Visitor is ranked 76-160
  • Group 3 (away games): Host is ranked 136-240
  • Group 4 (home games): Visitor is ranked 161-353
  • Group 4 (away games): Host is ranked 241-353

All NET numbers are from the NCAA’s website and reflect games played through Monday, February 4. Records reflect games played through the same date. All times are Eastern.

Top 30 at Top 75

Group 1 for both the host and visitor

No. 17 Kansas Jayhawks (17-5, 6-3) at No. 30 Kansas State Wildcats (16-5, 6-2), 9 p.m. (ESPN)

Tuesday’s lone all-Group 1 matchup is a crucial one in the Big 12 race, as the host Wildcats are currently tied with the Baylor Bears for first. The Jayhawks will need to improve upon a brutal 1-3 mark in conference road games to avoid dropping two games out of the lead.

31-75 at Top 75

Group 1 for the visitor only; Group 2 for the host

No. 34 N.C. State Wolfpack (16-6, 4-5) at No. 9 North Carolina Tar Heels (17-4, 7-1), 8 p.m. (Raycom (Regional)/TheACC.com/ESPN3)
No. 31 Florida State Seminoles (16-5, 4-4) at No. 42 Syracuse Orange (16-6, 7-2), 8 p.m. (Raycom (Regional)/ESPN3)
No. 45 St. John’s Red Storm (16-6, 4-5) at No. 18 Marquette Golden Eagles (19-3, 8-1), 8 p.m. (FS1)
No. 40 Florida Gators (12-9, 4-4) at No. 21 Auburn Tigers (15-6, 4-4), 9 p.m. (ESPNU)

Of the eight teams featured in these matchups, only Florida is currently outside of my current bracket projection. However, N.C. State, St. John’s, and Auburn are all in trouble. The Wolfpack and Red Storm can both pick up vital road wins tonight, though N.C. State will be looking to avoid a season sweep at the hands of the Tar Heels. I’m particularly curious to see how Kevin Keatts’ squad plays after Saturday’s historic 24-point performance against the Virginia Tech Hokies in Raleigh. On the flip side, Chris Mullin’s squad can actually sweep Marquette.

Syracuse can continue its strong start to ACC play by taking care of FSU at the Carrier Dome, while Florida will aim to improve its record in Group 1 games to 2-7 by winning on the Plains.

Top 30 at 76-135

Group 1 for the host only; Group 2 for the visitor

No. 7 Michigan State Spartans (18-4, 9-2) at No. 98 Illinois Fighting Illini (7-15, 3-8), 7 p.m. (ESPN2)
No. 6 Michigan Wolverines (20-2, 9-2) at No. 119 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (11-10, 4-7), 8 p.m. (BTN)

Two of the Big Ten’s three co-leaders hit the road for tricky road contests. And with both the Spartans and Wolverines heading into trap-like environments coming off weekend losses, they’ll need to be on guard this evening.

31-75 at 76-135

Group 2 for both the host and the visitor

No. 37 Utah State Aggies (17-5, 7-2) at No. 79 Fresno State Bulldogs (16-5, 7-2), 10:30 p.m. (AT&T SN Rocky Mtn. and SW/Root Sports/MWN)

The winner remains a loss behind the Nevada Wolf Pack in the Mountain West race—and in the at-large hunt.

76-160 at Top 75

Group 1 for the visitor only; Group 3 for the host

No. 104 South Carolina Gamecocks (11-10, 6-2) at No. 5 Kentucky Wildcats (18-3, 7-1), 7 p.m. (SECN)
No. 137 Boston College Eagles (11-9, 2-6) at No. 3 Duke Blue Devils (19-2, 7-1), 7 p.m. (ESPN)
No. 84 Missouri Tigers (11-9, 2-6) at No. 4 Tennessee Volunteers (20-1, 8-0), 9 p.m. (ESPN2)
No. 114 Vanderbilt Commodores (9-12, 0-8) at No. 57 Arkansas Razorbacks (13-8, 4-4), 9 p.m. (SECN)

Duke, Kentucky, and Tennessee should all be able to cruise at home, while Arkansas can extend its win streak to three by topping struggling Vandy. A win over the Commodores won’t put the Hogs back in the at-large picture, but a loss will surely push them further away from the bubble.

76-160 at 76-135

Group 2 for the visitor only; Group 3 for the host

No. 88 Dayton Flyers (15-7, 7-2) at No. 122 Saint Louis Billikens (14-8, 5-4), 9 p.m. (CBSSN)

The Billikens have fallen out of the bid picture, thanks to four straight losses. They’ll be hard pressed to end that streak, even at home, as Travis Ford may have as few as six or seven players available this evening. As for the Flyers, they remain a loss behind leader Davidson in the competitive Atlantic 10 race.

76-160 at 136-240

Group 3 for both the host and the visitor

No. 80 Pittsburgh Panthers (12-10, 2-7) at No. 201 Wake Forest Demon Deacons (8-13, 1-8), 7 p.m. (ESPNU)

The Panthers should be able to snap their five-game skid in Winston-Salem, as Wake has dropped its last five, scoring just 37 at Clemson on Sunday.
