Gulf Coast Showcase Quarterfinals

FloHoops.com ($) will stream all four games.

Northeastern Huskies (3-2, CAA) vs. South Alabama Jaguars (3-2, Sun Belt), 11 a.m.
Drake Bulldogs (4-1, MVC) vs. Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (3-1, MAC), approx. 1:30 p.m.
Wright State Raiders (4-1, Horizon) vs. Weber State Wildcats (1-2, Big Sky), 5 p.m.
Murray State Racers (3-1, OVC) vs. La Salle Explorers (1-2, A 10), approx. 7:30 p.m.

(Bracket)

There are plenty of intriguing teams in this mid-major-exclusive group with the first quarterfinal alone pitting the defending CAA Tournament champion with the Sun Belt favorite. Murray State, playing La Salle in the nightcap, joined Northeastern in the field of 68 a season ago.

Cayman Islands Classic Quarterfinals

FloHoops.com ($) will stream all four games.

Colorado State Rams (3-2, MW) vs. New Mexico State Aggies (2-3, WAC), 12 p.m.
Loyola Chicago Ramblers (3-2, MVC) vs. South Florida Bulls (2-2, American), approx. 2:30 p.m.
George Mason Patriots (5-1, A 10) vs. Old Dominion Monarchs (3-2, C-USA), 6 p.m.
Washington State Cougars (2-2, Pac-12) vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers (2-2, Big Ten), approx. 8:30 p.m.

(Bracket)

There’s no clear favorite in this field, which at this point looks like it won’t feature an NCAA team. Consider the two teams playing in the night’s final game—Washington State lost to Omaha in an on-campus game on Thursday, while Nebraska had to play OT against Southern (and the Huskers also lost to UC Riverside and Southern Utah at home to start the season). Even New Mexico State isn’t off to a great start, as the Aggies have dropped the front ends of their annual home-and home series with UTEP and New Mexico.

NIT Season Tip-Off Orlando Subregional Semifinals

ESPNU will air both games.

Yale Bulldogs (3-3, Ivy) vs. Western Michigan Broncos (4-2, MAC), 12 p.m.
Seattle Redhawks (2-4, WAC) vs. Bucknell Bison (2-4, Patriot), approx. 2:30 p.m.

(Bracket)

This event is playing a neutral-site bracketed subregional for the very first time, down at Walt Disney World’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The four visitors went 0-8 in on-campus games, but with Yale playing both Oklahoma State and Penn State close, the Bulldogs are the favorites here—and it’s not a close call.

U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Finals

FloHoops.com ($) will stream all four games.

7th/8th Place: Grand Canyon Antelopes (2-5, WAC) vs. Illinois State Redbirds (2-3, MVC), 1 p.m.
4th/6th Place: Fordham Rams (4-1, A 10) vs. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (5-1, C-USA), approx. 3:30 p.m.
3rd/5th Place: Valparaiso Crusaders (4-2, MVC) vs. Cincinnati Bearcats (3-2, American), approx. 6 p.m.
Championship: Nevada Wolf Pack (4-3, MW) vs. Bowling Green Falcons (5-1, MAC), approx. 8:30 p.m.

As usual, the surprises continued on Sunday night in St. Thomas, as Bowling Green rallied to defeat Cincinnati after overtime, 91-84. So, the Falcons will meet Nevada, who survived their half of the bracket in an unexpected championship game. The other surprise here is the seventh-place game, as one of Grand Canyon or Illinois State will leave the Virgin Islands with three losses. Few expected that when this event tipped off on Friday.

(Bracket)

Maui Jim Maui Invitational Quarterfinals

Georgia Bulldogs (4-0, SEC) vs. Dayton Flyers (3-0, A 10), 2:30 p.m. (ESPN2)
Virginia Tech Hokies (5-0, ACC) vs. Michigan State Spartans (3-1, Big Ten), approx. 5 p.m. (ESPN2)
Kansas Jayhawks (3-1, Big 12) vs. Chaminade Silverswords (2-0, DII, PacWest, host), 9 p.m. (ESPNU)
BYU Cougars (3-2, WCC) vs. UCLA Bruins (4-1, Pac-12), approx. 11:30 p.m. (ESPN2)

(PDF Bracket)

The greatest tournament of them all tips off at the Lahaina Civic Center this morning (Hawai’i time), with Michigan State and Kansas the overwhelming favorites to play for the title on Wednesday afternoon. You would have thought that Virginia Tech would have been a potential semifinal opponent for the Spartans instead of meeting them in the first round, but with the Hokies expected to struggle a bit this year, the two will meet in the quarterfinals. Both Virginia Tech and Dayton need quality wins here for their at-large hopes. As for BYU and UCLA, both are coming off surprising losses, and the loser is almost assuredly destined to meet Chaminade on Tuesday, so their matchup has some extra juice to it.

MGM Resorts Main Event Day 2

Middleweight (Visitors) Round-Robin

Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (3-2, Sun Belt) vs. Detroit Mercy Titans (1-3, Horizon), 4 p.m. (FloHoops.com ($))

The UC Irvine Anteaters (3-4, Big West) fell to the Titans, 86-74, on Sunday, with their third loss in a row being UDM’s first victory of the season. Mike Davis’ squad will look to build a win streak and claim the Middleweight belt against a Louisiana outfit that’s dropped two of its last three.

Cayman Islands Classic Mainland Semifinals

Omaha will stream both games.

Loyola (Md.) Greyhounds (2-3, Patriot) vs. IUPUI Jaguars (2-3, Horizon), 5:30 p.m.
Southern Jaguars (2-3, SWAC) at Omaha Mavericks (3-3, Summit), approx. 8 p.m.

Both Omaha (Washington State) and IUPUI (South Florida) won on-campus games and Southern took Nebraska to overtime, so these games should be competitive at a minimum.

Rocket Mortgage by Quicken Loans Fort Myers Tip-Off Semifinals

FS1 will air both games.

Kansas State Wildcats (4-0, Big 12) vs. Pittsburgh Panthers (4-2, ACC), 6 p.m.
Bradley Braves (4-1, MVC) vs. Northwestern Wildcats (2-2, Big Ten), approx. 8:30 p.m.

K-State looks to be the favorite here, though I would rank Pitt second, so the winner of the evening’s first game looks to have the inside track at the title. Northwestern dropped a campus game to Radford, as the Wildcats continue to struggle since 2017’s NCAA trip.

Roman Legends Classic Presented by Old Trapper Semifinals

Wisconsin Badgers (4-1, Big Ten) vs. Richmond Spiders (4-0, A 10), 7 p.m. (ESPN2)
Auburn Tigers (5-0, SEC) vs. New Mexico Lobos (5-1, MW), approx. 9:30 p.m. (ESPN News)

(PDF Schedule)

These four teams have combined to lose just twice this season. While Wisconsin and Auburn look like heavy favorites to meet in tomorrow night’s final in Brooklyn, Richmond’s resurgent offense could give the Badgers fits in this evening’s first matchup.

Hall Of Fame Classic Powered by ShotTracker Semifinals

Butler Bulldogs (5-0, Big East) vs. Missouri Tigers (4-1, SEC), 7 p.m. (ESPNU)
Oklahoma Sooners (5-0, Big 12) vs. Stanford Cardinal (6-0, Pac-12), approx. 9:30 p.m. (ESPN2)

Three of these squads rank in KenPom’s top 30 (Stanford is the exception), so this should be a fairly even pair of games in Kansas City. This one could have bubble/seeding implications and these squads all look like they find themselves between lines 7 and 11 when March runs around if they remain in the picture when conference play starts.

Roman Legends Classic Presented by Old Trapper Subregional Day 2

CSUN Matadors (0-6, Big West) at Green Bay Phoenix (1-3, Horizon), 8 p.m. (FloHoops.com ($))

The Matadors are still looking for their first win after falling to the Colgate Raiders (3-3, Patriot) 64-56 in Sunday’s opener. I don’t think they’ll get it tonight against the host Phoenix.
