Myrtle Beach Invitational Finals

3rd/4th Place: Tulane Green Wave (3-2, American) vs. Utah Utes (3-2, Pac-12), 10:30 a.m. (ESPNU)
5th/6th Place: Mississippi State Bulldogs (5-1, SEC) at Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (3-3, Sun Belt), approx. 1 p.m. (ESPN News)
Championship: Villanova Wildcats (4-1, Big East) vs. Baylor Bears (4-1, Big 12), 5 p.m. (ESPN)
7th/8th Place: Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (3-3, C-USA) vs. Ohio Bobcats (3-3, MAC), approx. 7:30 p.m. (ESPN News)

(PDF Bracket)

This schedule reminds you that these tournaments, particularly the ESPN-owned ones, are made-for-TV events, so the order of games might not make sense logically. But it does work with a TV schedule.

Other than home team Coastal Carolina slipping through to the semifinals, this bracket has gone according to plan. As a result, there is a ranked final coming up this evening between Villanova and Baylor. The Wildcats are aiming to win their seventh consecutive exempt tournament title, while the Bears can claim their third in four seasons.

Islands of the Bahamas Showcase Finals

FloHoops.com ($) will stream all four games.

7th/8th Place: Morgan State Bears (3-4, MEAC) vs. Evansville Purple Aces (3-3, MVC), 11 a.m.
5th/6th Place: Milwaukee Panthers (5-2, Horizon) vs. George Washington Colonials (2-4, A 10), 2 p.m.
3rd/4th Place: Rice Owls (5-3, C-USA) vs. East Carolina Pirates (2-4, American), 5 p.m.
Championship: Liberty Flames (7-0, ASUN) vs. Kansas City Roos (4-3, WAC), 8 p.m.

(Bracket)

While Liberty reached the championship game in Nassau, as expected, they will face a Kansas City team that didn’t defeat a D1 opponent until tipping off in the Bahamas on Friday, not any of the other fancied squads. That list includes Evansville, now 0-3 against D1 opponents since knocking off Kentucky on November 12. The Purple Aces will now need to defeat Morgan State to avoid a winless trip.

Maui Jim Maui Invitational Mainland Finals

Consolation: Charleston Southern Buccaneers (1-5, Big South) vs. Delaware State Hornets (0-5, MEAC), 11:30 a.m.
Championship: Southern Utah Thunderbirds (3-2, Big Sky) at ETSU Buccaneers (4-1, SoCon), approx. 2 p.m. (ESPN3)

Southern Utah will have a battle on its hands as it attempts to win on ETSU’s home floor to take the Maui on the Mainland title, while the winner of the consolation game will claim its first win over a D1 opponent this season.

Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic Day 2

CBSSN will air all four games.

Eastern Michigan Eagles (5-0, MAC) vs. North Carolina A&T Aggies (2-4, MEAC), 12 p.m.
LSU Tigers (3-2, SEC) vs. Rhode Island Rams (4-1, A 10), approx. 2:30 p.m.
North Texas Mean Green (2-4, C-USA) vs. Utah State Aggies (6-0, MW), 6:30 p.m.
Nicholls State Colonels (2-4, Southland) vs. UMBC Retrievers (4-2, AE), approx. 9 p.m.

Utah State can claim the Jamaica Classic title by following up Friday’s furious 80-78 comeback win over LSU with a victory over a North Texas team that lost to Rhode Island by 13. The Tigers, meanwhile, will aim to top the Rams to avoid an 0-for-2 trip. The winner of the first game on the visitors’ side, EMU vs. N.C. A&T, will go 2-0 in that half of the field.

Charleston Classic Finals

3rd/4th Place: Miami Hurricanes (4-2, ACC) vs. UConn Huskies (3-2, American), 1 p.m. (ESPN2)
5th/6th Place: Missouri State Bears (3-3, MVC) vs. Buffalo Bulls (3-2, MAC), approx. 3:30 p.m. (ESPNU)
7th/8th Place: Saint Joseph’s Hawks (2-4, A 10) vs. Towson Tigers (2-4, CAA), 6 p.m. (ESPNU)
Championship: Florida Gators (4-2, SEC) vs. Xavier Musketeers (6-0, Big East), approx. 8:30 p.m. (ESPN)

(PDF Bracket)

For the third Sunday in a row, Florida will take the floor against a power conference opponent, and the Gators will hope to build on Friday’s dominant win over Miami as they aim to knock off still-undefeated Xavier. The Musketeers survived a wild double-OT thriller against UConn late on Friday night/early on Saturday morning. (Just think how future Big East Tournament games between those two teams will be.) The Huskies, meanwhile, will play early today against a Hurricanes squad which is also looking to leave the Lowcountry with something to build on.

While Xavier has won an exempt tournament title recently (2016’s relocated Puerto Rico Tip-Off in Florida), Florida’s last such title came almost exactly 10 years ago. The Gators defeated Michigan State and Rutgers to claim the Legends Classic title on November 27th and 28th, 2009.

I will be in the building for all four games once again, so expect plenty of tweets.

Air Force Reserve Hall of Fame Tip-Off presented by Citi Finals

Naismith (Host) Bracket

Championship: Virginia Cavaliers (5-0, ACC) vs. Arizona State Sun Devils (3-1, Pac-12), 1 p.m. (ESPN)
Consolation: UMass Minutemen (5-1, A 10) vs. St. John’s Red Storm (4-2, Big East), approx. 3:30 p.m. (ESPN2)

Springfield (Visitor) Bracket

ESPN3 will stream both games.

Consolation: Columbia Lions (1-5, Ivy) vs. Central Connecticut State Blue Devils (0-6, NEC), approx. 6 p.m.
Championship: Rider Broncs (3-2, MAAC) vs. Vermont Catamounts (5-1, AE), approx. 8:30 p.m.

There wasn’t much mystery at the Mohegan Sun yesterday, as the four games were decided by 12, 13, 24, and 32 points respectively, with the Naismith Bracket games being significantly closer than the Springfield ones. Arizona State will look to knock off Virginia to win an exempt event for a third straight year, while the Cavaliers have won six in succession. In the Springfield bracket, Vermont should be able to get past Rider, even if the Broncs look like a good bet to contend in the MAAC.

MGM Resorts Main Event Day 1

Middleweight (Visitors) Round-Robin

Detroit Mercy Titans (0-3, Horizon) vs. UC Irvine Anteaters (3-3, Big West), 3 p.m. (FloHoops.com ($))

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (3-2, Sun Belt) are the third team involved and they’ll take on Detroit tomorrow afternoon in Las Vegas. The visitors went 0-6 in their road games, but UC Irvine lost by just one at TCU on Thursday night and Louisiana took Wyoming to OT in Laramie.

Heavyweight (Host) Semifinals

Colorado Buffaloes (3-0, Pac-12) vs. Wyoming Cowboys (3-3, MW), 8 p.m. (ESPN3)
TCU Horned Frogs (4-0, Big 12) vs. Clemson Tigers (4-1, ACC), approx. 10:30 p.m. (ESPN2)

Both Colorado and TCU will look to stay perfect tonight, though the Horned Frogs have a more difficult matchup on paper. While the Buffaloes face a Wyoming team that’s trying to get back to respectability, both the Horned Frogs and Clemson joined CU in the NIT last March.

Junkanoo Jam Day 3

FloHoops.com ($) will stream both games.

Air Force Falcons (2-4, MW) vs. Indiana State Sycamores (1-4, MVC), 4 p.m.
Loyola Marymount Lions (2-3, WCC) vs. Duquesne Dukes (5-0, A 10), approx. 6:30 p.m.

In game one, Indiana State will aim to win its second straight, while Air Force would like to avoid an 0-3 trip to Bimini. Meanwhile, the nightcap features a Duquesne team that will be favored to stay unbeaten and claim the Junkanoo Jam trophy.

U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Semifinals

FloHoops.com ($) will stream both games.

Valparaiso Crusaders (4-1, MVC) vs. Nevada Wolf Pack (3-3, MW), 5:30 p.m.
Cincinnati Bearcats (3-1, American) vs. Bowling Green Falcons (4-1, MAC), approx. 8 p.m.

(Bracket)

While Nevada and Cincinnati both expected to feature in Sunday’s semifinal doubleheader, Valpo (by four over Grand Canyon) and Bowling Green (77-75 over Western Kentucky) pulled off upsets to get here. Considering this tournament has a history of wacky results, the Wolf Pack and Bearcats can’t count on reaching tomorrow night’s final even with the favorites tag.

Roman Legends Classic Presented by Old Trapper Subregional Day 1

CSUN Matadors (0-5, Big West) vs. Colgate Raiders (2-3, Patriot), 9 p.m. (FloHoops.com ($))

While the host teams’ bracket begins tomorrow night in Brooklyn, the Green Bay Phoenix (1-3, Horizon) host a three-team round-robin for this year’s subregional. (The fourth visitor, the McNeese State Cowboys, elected to play three road games and a home game instead.) Green Bay opens with CSUN tomorrow evening.
