Myrtle Beach Invitational Semifinals

Championship

Villanova Wildcats (3-1, Big East) vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs (5-0, SEC), approx. 2:30 p.m. (ESPN2)
Baylor Bears (3-1, Big 12) at Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (3-2, Sun Belt), approx. 5 p.m. (ESPNU)

Consolation

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (3-1, C-USA) vs. Tulane Green Wave (3-0, American), 12 p.m. (ESPNU)
Ohio Bobcats (3-2, MAC) vs. Utah Utes (3-1, Pac-12), approx. 7:30 p.m. (ESPN News)

(PDF Bracket)

Fans in Conway, S.C. will be hoping for some closer games today, thanks to a set of quarterfinal games all decided by 14 or more points. The home fans went home happy, however, as host Coastal Carolina routed Utah, 79-57, to prevent a Power 6 washout in the semifinals. The Chanticleers will have their hands full this evenint with Baylor, however.

Charleston Classic Semifinals

Championship

Miami Hurricanes (4-1, ACC) vs. Florida Gators (3-2, SEC), 12 p.m. (ESPN2)
Xavier Musketeers (5-0, Big East) vs. UConn Huskies (3-1, American), approx. 9:30 p.m. (ESPNU)

Consolation

Missouri State Bears (2-3, MVC) vs. Saint Joseph’s Hawks (2-3, A 10), approx. 2:30 p.m. (ESPNU)
Towson Tigers (2-3, CAA) vs. Buffalo Bulls (2-2, MAC), 7 p.m. (ESPNU)

(PDF Bracket)

It was a different story down the South Carolina coast in Charleston, where only the day’s third quarterfinal, Xavier’s 73-51 win over Towson was a real blowout. Missouri State and Saint Joseph’s rallied late only to fall short against Miami and Florida, respectively, in the afternoon session, while UConn pulled away from Buffalo late, after the Bulls led for nearly all of the first half.

In today’s first semifinal, we have an in-state rivalry, with Florida having split its last two games against Miami, following a 66-55 loss in Coral Gables back in 2015 with a 65-56 win in the then-Advocare Invitational one year later. Meanwhile, the nightcap is a preview of next season’s Big East schedule, as UConn and Xavier will be conference rivals in one year’s time.

2K Empire Classic Benefiting Wounded Warrior Project Finals

ESPN2 will air both games.

Consolation: Texas Longhorns (4-1, Big 12) vs. California Golden Bears (4-1, Pac-12), 5 p.m.
Championship: Georgetown Hoyas (4-1, Big East) vs. Duke Blue Devils (5-0, ACC), approx. 7:30 p.m.

(Full Schedule PDF)

While Duke had no trouble with Cal in Thursday’s Madison Square Garden nightcap, Georgetown put together its best performance of the season to dispatch Texas 82-66. So, the Longhorns will face the Golden Bears in the consolation game, which is a rematch of the 2014 final, which Texas won 71-55. As for this season’s championship tilt, it’s also a repeat of 2015’s. The Blue Devils edged the Hoyas 86-84 in that one.

2K Empire Classic Benefiting Wounded Warrior Project Subregional Semifinals

FloHoops.com ($) will stream both games.

Georgia State Panthers (1-3, Sun Belt) vs. Prairie View A&M Panthers (1-4, SWAC), 8 p.m.
Central Arkansas Bears (Southland, 1-4) at Cal Baptist Lancers (2-2, WAC, transitional), approx. 10:30 p.m.

Not only did the Empire Classic’s four visiting schools go 0-8 in on-campus games, only host Cal Baptist has recorded a D1 victory so far this season—the Lancers routed visiting Jackson State on Opening Night. CBU will be expected to pick up a second tonight, with the “Battle of the Panthers” in game one should be a competitive affair.

U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Quarterfinals

FloHoops.com ($) will stream all four games.

Valparaiso Crusaders (3-1, MVC) vs. Grand Canyon Antelopes (2-3, WAC), 1 p.m.
Fordham Rams (3-0, A 10) vs. Nevada Wolf Pack (2-3, MW), approx. 3:30 p.m.
Illinois State Redbirds (2-1, MVC) vs. Cincinnati Bearcats (2-1, American), approx. 6 p.m.
Bowling Green Falcons (3-1, MAC) vs. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (4-0, C-USA), approx. 8:30 p.m.

(Bracket)

With Nevada rebuilding, Cincinnati is a heavy favorite to claim three victories in St. Thomas this weekend. In fact, the Bearcats’ biggest challenges may come in tonight’s quarterfinal against Illinois State (who played UCF close on Sunday and defeated a Belmont team that’s looked unstoppable in the games since) and a potential Sunday semifinal against C-USA favorite WKU.

Islands of the Bahamas Showcase Quarterfinals

FloHoops.com ($) will stream all four games.

Liberty Flames (5-0, ASUN) vs. Morgan State Bears (3-2, MEAC), 11 a.m.
Rice Owls (4-2, C-USA) vs. Milwaukee Panthers (4-1, Horizon), 2 p.m.
Kansas City Roos (2-3, WAC) vs. George Washington Colonials (1-3, A 10), 5 p.m.
Evansville Purple Aces (3-1, MVC) vs. East Carolina Pirates (1-3, American), 8 p.m.

(Bracket)

Liberty, who won an NCAA game last March, entered the preseason as the clear favorite to win this event, but then Evansville won at Kentucky, which changed the equation a bit. While the Purple Aces fell at home to SMU on Monday, they should still be able to at least make the final, as neither ECU nor UE’s two potential semifinal opponents are all that scary.

Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic Day 1

CBSSN will air all four games.

Nicholls State Colonels (2-3, Southland) vs. North Carolina A&T Aggies (1-4, MEAC), 11:30 a.m.
Eastern Michigan Eagles (4-0, MAC) vs. UMBC Retrievers (4-1, AE), approx. 2 p.m.
North Texas Mean Green (2-3, C-USA) vs. Rhode Island Rams (3-1, A 10), approx. 4:30 p.m.
LSU Tigers (3-1, SEC) vs. Utah State Aggies (5-0, MW), approx. 7 p.m.

As usual, the Jamaica Classic features set matchups, with the second games scheduled for Sunday. While LSU-Utah State, pairing two 2019 NCAA qualifiers, is the biggest game of the day, don’t forget about North Texas-Rhode Island immediately before, as both of those teams could hear their names called on Selection Sunday, though the Mean Green will likely need to win the C-USA auto bid to get there.

Junkanoo Jam Day 2

FloHoops.com ($) will stream both games.

Indiana State Sycamores (0-4, MVC) vs. Loyola Marymount Lions (2-2, WCC), 4 p.m.
Duquesne Dukes (4-0, A 10) vs. Air Force Falcons (2-2, MW), approx. 6:30 p.m.

Loyola Marymount opened Thursday’s action in Bimini with a 78-64 victory over Air Force, the Lions’ first of the season against D1 opposition. In the second game of the evening, Duquesne edged Indiana State 74-71—a result that kept the Dukes perfect and Sycamores winless.
