2K Classic Benefitting Wounded Warrior Project Finals

Consolation: Virginia Tech Hokies (2-1) vs. Washington Huskies (2-1), 5 p.m. (ESPN2)
Championship: Saint Louis Billikens (3-0) vs. Providence Friars (2-1), approx. 7:30 p.m. (ESPN2)

Heading into Thursday, I was skeptical about the thought of Saint Louis contending for the Atlantic 10 title and an NCAA bid. But last night’s win over Virginia Tech changes things a bit; however, defeating Big East contender Providence would make the Billikens an even more legitimate threat. And when you consider how the Huskies pushed the Friars in their semifinal nightcap, their consolation matchup with the Hokies should also be an intriguing early evening watch.

Puerto Rico Tip-Off At Myrtle Beach Semifinals

Championship

Illinois State Redbirds (1-1) vs. Boise State Broncos (3-0), approx. 1 p.m. (ESPN2)
Iowa State Cyclones (1-2) vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane (2-1), approx. 7:30 p.m. (ESPNU)

Consolation

South Carolina Gamecocks (2-1) vs. UTEP Miners (1-1), 10:30 a.m. (ESPNU)
Appalachian State Mountaineers (2-1) vs. Western Michigan Broncos (1-2), 5 p.m. (ESPNU)

The Redbirds’ and Cyclones’ respective quarterfinal victories were their first of the season, while the Broncos—specifically, Chandler Hutchison—rallied very late, scoring five points in the final 13 seconds to condemn the Miners to a morning consolation round tip against quasi-host South Carolina.

In my mind, the winner of the all-mid-major semifinal between Illinois State and Boise State looks a more likely champion than either of the Power 7 teams remaining, Iowa State or Tulsa.

Gildan Charleston Classic Semifinals

Championship

Auburn Tigers (2-0) vs. Temple Owls (1-0), 11 a.m. (ESPN2)
Clemson Tigers (3-0) vs. Hofstra Pride (3-0), approx. 9:30 p.m. (ESPNU)

Consolation

Indiana State Sycamores (1-1) vs. Old Dominion Monarchs (2-1), approx. 1:30 p.m. (ESPNU)
Ohio Bobcats (1-1) vs. Dayton Flyers (1-1), 7 p.m. (ESPNews)

Three of the four favorites took their Charleston quarterfinals rather easily, though ODU rallied from 19 down against Temple in the second half before the Owls reasserted themselves late. The exception was Dayton, who couldn’t overcome the 27 Eli Pemberton scored for Hofstra. In fact, the Flyers only led for a mere 11 seconds late in the second half.

While Auburn looked impressive in dismantling Indiana State in the first quarterfinal of the day, I’m curious to see if the Tigers can put together a similar performance against a higher-quality Temple squad in the first semifinal of the day. Meanwhile, Clemson will have to fancy its chances against Hofstra in the day’s final game, particularly if the Tigers can contain Pemberton.

Jamaica Classic Montego Bay (Primer)

Hosts’ Showcase

Tulane Green Wave (2-0) vs. Colorado State Rams (2-0), 2 p.m. (CBSSN)
Fordham Rams (1-1) vs. Florida State Seminoles (1-0), 6 p.m. (CBSSN)

Visitors’ Round-Robin

LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds (1-2) vs. Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (2-0), approx. 8:30 p.m. (12 a.m. 11/18, CBSSN delayed)

The inaugural edition of this event features a pair of non-bracketed showcases, thanks to a previously-scheduled Tulane-Florida State contest in Tampa and the fact the only three visiting teams made the trip to Jamaica.

These will be the first Division I men’s games played on the island.

FSU and CSU should take care of Fordham and Tulane, respectively. In fact, the A 10 Rams split their two on-campus games—losing to Miami on Opening Night before taking down LIU on Monday. Meanwhile, the Blackbirds pushed Tulane in New Orleans one week ago, with the Green Wave picking up a season-opening 102-96 victory.

Islands Of The Bahamas Showcase Quarterfinals (Primer)

FloHoops.com ($) will stream all four games.

Vermont Catamounts (0-1) vs. Bradley Braves (2-0), 11 a.m.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (1-1) vs. UTSA Roadrunners (2-0), 2 p.m.
Northern Kentucky Norse (2-0) vs. James Madison Dukes (1-1), 5 p.m.
Iona Gaels (0-2) vs. Weber State Wildcats (2-0), 8 p.m.

Thanks to the inconsistency of early season scheduling, the two winless teams in this field look to be the most serious threats for the title. Vermont pushed Kentucky to the limit on Sunday, losing by just four at Rupp Arena. Meanwhile, Iona dropped its opener at Albany by two before playing Syracuse close at the Carrier Dome on Tuesday, losing by a 71-62 count. Just five of the 10 total wins earned the field’s remaining half-dozen teams came against Division I competition.

U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Quarterfinals (Primer)

FloHoops.com ($) will stream all four games.

Mercer Bears (2-1) at Liberty Flames (2-0), 12 p.m.
Drexel Dragons (1-1) vs. Houston Cougars (1-0), approx. 2:30 p.m.
Quinnipiac Bobcats (1-1) vs. Colorado Buffaloes (2-0), 6 p.m.
Drake Bulldogs (1-0) vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (0-2), 8:30 p.m.

Liberty, the host of this relocated event, owns the most impactful victory of the 10 this group has gathered—as the Flames have already defeated Wake Forest in Winston-Salem. Considering the 2017 NCAA qualifiers have also lost to Georgia Southern, the title of favorite clearly no longer belongs to the Demon Deacons. The door is very much open for the other two Power 7 teams in the field—Houston and Colorado—as well as for the winner of the first quarterfinal of the day. SoCon favorite Mercer would probably be favored to topple the host Flames on a neutral floor, but with the game at the Vines Center, KenPom projects it as a 71-70 Liberty victory.
