College Hoops Viewing Guide: December 22, 2013

The quarterfinals of the Diamond Head Classic highlight a surprisingly busy Sunday slate.

All TV info is courtesy Matt's College Sports on TV site. He has many more games listed, and you'll also want to check out his listings for information on which ACC and SEC regional contests and CSN, FSN, and Root Sports games (all games listed in these posts marked with an *) are available on which affiliates.

All times are Eastern.

Las Vegas Classic Semifinals

Hosts' Semifinals

South Florida Bulls (8-2) vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs (8-2), 8 p.m.
Santa Clara Broncos (6-5) vs. UNLV Runnin' Rebels (5-4), approx. 10:30 p.m.
Tomorrow's finals will be televised by CBS Sports Network. Expect USF and UNLV to meet for the title, but for the Bulls to win in dramatic fashion.

Visitors Semifinals

Sacred Heart Pioneers (2-9) vs. Radford Highlanders (6-4), 3 p.m.
Florida A&M Rattlers (2-9) vs. Florida Gulf Coast Eagles (5-6), approx. 5:30 p.m.
The surprising Highlanders and disappointing Eagles are favored to meet for the visitors' crown.

Diamond Head Classic Quarterfinals

(all games on ESPNU)
Iowa State Cyclones (8-0) vs. George Mason Patriots (5-4), 5:30 p.m.
Oregon State Beavers (6-2) vs. Akron Zips (5-2), approx. 8 p.m.
South Carolina Gamecocks (2-5) vs. St. Mary's Gaels (9-0), 11 p.m.
Boise State Broncos (8-2) at Hawai `i Warriors (7-2), approx. 1:30 a.m. ET
Up until a week ago, Iowa State and Boise State looked to be the heavy favorites here, but then the Broncos lost to St. Mary's at home. Those two could very well meet again in tomorrow's semifinals. The Cyclones, who should get past a disappointing George Mason squad, will face a test regardless of whether they face defending MAC champ Akron or improving Oregon State.

Other Games Of Note

Purdue Boilermakers (9-3) at West Virginia Mountaineers (7-4), 1 p.m. (ESPNU)
Despite their records, I'm not really sure whether you can consider either one of these squads an at-large contender right now. However, I can say the loser has a ton of work to do when conference play starts.

Boston College Eagles (4-7) at Auburn Tigers (5-3), 2 p.m. (SEC on CSS*/ESPN3)
This game has the feel of two power conference squads playing out the string...and it's not even January yet. However, the Eagles had better beware, as Auburn defeated ACC rival Clemson Tigers on Thursday night.

La Salle Explorers (6-5) at Miami Hurricanes (6-5), 3 p.m. (ESPN3)
Last season, the Explorers were crushed in Miami and made the tournament anyway. This season, they could win there and it may not matter at all.

Connecticut Huskies (9-1) at Washington Huskies (6-4), 3:30 p.m. (ESPNU)
While we were not lucky enough to see the Huskies meet in the 2K Sports Classic in New York, we get to see UConn head across the country to take on struggling Washington. I don't expect Kevin Ollie's team to lose its second game in a row to Pac-12 opposition.

Southern U. Jaguars (3-8) at Baylor Bears (9-1), 5 p.m. (FS Southwest*)
The Bears needed overtime to defeat Southland favorite Northwestern St. Demons on Wednesday. They face another challenging squad (despite the Jaguars' record) this evening.

California Golden Bears (8-3) at Creighton Bluejays (8-2), 7 p.m. (FS1)
The Golden Bears travel to what is now Big East country (funny to type that) where they'll attempt to slow down the Bluejays' offense and grab a quality win for a profile that needs one.
