Last week, I mentioned that five of the eight teams for the inaugural Battle 4 (not "at") Atlantis were known. On Wednesday, the full field was announced, per this press release from College of Charleston.
The Cougars will be part of a fairly impressive field for a first time event, which is headlined by 2011 National Champion Connecticut (Big East) and Sweet Sixteen participant Florida State (ACC). The other five teams are UCF, a team that dominated in the early season before struggling in Conference USA play; Harvard, who just missed earning the Ivy crown; Big South tournament champ UNC-Asheville; new Pac-12 team Utah; and Massachusetts (A-10).
Keep in mind that the College of Charleston, Massachusetts, and Utah were all slated to participate in the Cancun Governor's Cup, which has been canceled, per Tommy Braswell of The Post and Courier.
In one other piece of news, Syracuse Orange looks to be headed to the NIT Season Tip-Off, as I surmised last week. Our Orange blog Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician has a post with that info, based on reporting by MSG and CBS's Jon Rothstein. Twelve spots remain in that field.
The 2011 Early Season Events page has been updated to reflect these changes.
