Streamlined Bubble Watch Up At SB Nation

+

This week (and next week too), I've gone with a shorter take on bubble watch over at SB Nation, counting teams in and out. I'll focus more on profiles once February rolls around and the field thins out a bit moer.

Bubble Watch Debuts Over At SB Nation

Just a warning, it's a very long post. The bubble is extremely crowded with just a bit less than two months to go until Selection Sunday. With only 21 teams looking like locks right now, there's a good chance your team is on the list, especially if you're a fan of a major conference school.

Hawai'i To Mountain West And Big West Official

As long anticipated, the Warriors will play football in the MWC, while the majority of the other Warrior/Wahine teams will play in the Big West. This is bad news for the WAC, which now has serious issues in terms of its NCAA Basketball Tournament bid. Here's the University of Hawai'i release. Others, like Andy Katz on ESPN.com and Ferd Lewis of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, are also reporting this news, which would help shore the conference's lineup after the departure of Boise State, Fresno State, and Nevada. I wrote about this subject last week. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer's Seattle Sports blog states that Seattle U's hopes rely on what Montana decides to do.

South Dakota To Big Sky: Not So Fast

Per the Indiana State athletics website, South Dakota accepted an invitation to the Missouri Valley Football Conference today, which shores up the Coyotes' position in the Summit League. It would be highly unlikely for USD to play football in the MVFC and every other sport in a conference that sponsors football on its own.

Coug Center: Pac-10 Divisions Announced--Football Only

+

As someone who's experienced both the "Big East 6" and "Big East 7" and the SEC East and West, I'm glad the Pac-10 (and Big Ten) have realized that you don't need divisions in a basketball conference, especially since they can screw up a perfectly good postseason tournament.

The Big Ten will announce its much-anticipated, two six-team divisional setup for the 2011-12 season later Wednesday, with traditional football powers Ohio State and Michigan in opposing divisions and new member Nebraska aligned with the Wolverines. Multiple sources told ESPN.com that the two divisions in the Big Ten will look like: • Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern and Minnesota. • And Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana and Illinois.

The Big East had decided not to scrap the double bye for the immediate future.

Indiana teams announce Crossroads Classic

I am excited to see this happen. Even if the teams are not very good from year to year, this set of games should always provide intrigue.
