Gonzaga pummeling St. Mary's
19-point lead, it’s really getting out of hand. St. Mary’s is looking awful, especially Patty Mills. Yikes.
by uclaisthebest123 on Mar 9, 2009 10:22 PM EDT reply actions
Yep
If they keep playing like this for the rest of the game, I can’t see the committee giving St. Mary’s a bid after this kind of performance. If they can at least make the game respectable and not a complete blowout it will give them some hope, but it’s not looking good.

To Gonzaga's credit, they are definitely playing the best ball of their season
And they are getting contributions from a lot of different players (four in double figures). But St. Mary’s is playing as bad as I’ve seen them play, and certainly the worst with Mills. The defense is awful, allowing Gonzaga to shoot 50% on both FGs AND 3-PT, and they are shooting 27 from the field.

I don't think Niagara has much of a chance
But while Siena doesn’t have the wins needed (even if they have played good teams), they might, might have a chance if BCS bubble teams keep on faltering. For me, Siena passes the eye test, and that counts for something.
by uclaisthebest123 on Mar 9, 2009 10:43 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah
felt that way about Siena, but the broadcasters at the game said Niagara had a case as well (even with a loss). I haven’t seen/heard much about them as an at-large, so I wasn’t sure.
With Niagara, it's really that they don't have a resume to compete with other bubble teams
When you play in a conference like the MAAC, you really need to do something of note in the nonconference and be close to perfect in conference play. They haven’t really done either, with only Illinois State in nonconference and four losses in conference play (2-3 too many). Just watching them tonight though, they are a solid team, and if they can pull this one out I would not count them out in the tourney. I don’t really see it though.

The problem for the Purple Eagles is...
…their best non-league wins are Illinois State, Buffalo, Drexel, and USF.

Gonzaga wins 83-58
Terrible performance by St. Mary’s in all facets of the game, and after this I just can’t see them getting to the tourney. Looks like an NIT team to me. :/

and Little Rock looks out of it at half-time.

woulda been playing in the play in game anyways..had they beat Oakland and NDSU…..hopefully NDSU can realize my dream of one dakota making it to the dance.
